Olomoucké tvarůžky cheese
Arguably the Czech Republic’s most famous cheese, Olomoucké tvarůžky or tvargle, originates from the Moravia region, near the northern city of Olomouc. A Czech favourite for over 500 years, Olomoucké tvarůžky is a low-fat cheese, with a strong, pungent odour and taste. To this day, Olomoucké tvarůžky is still made in the Moravia region, and received Protected Geographical Indications status from the EU in 2010. This much-loved Czech cheese even has its own museum in the town of Loštice near Olomouc!
Slovenská bryndza cheese
Used extensively in Slovak cooking, bryndza cheese is the key component in Slovakia’s national dish; bryndzové halušky. Eaten in Slovakia for around 700 years, bryndza cheese has a strong, sharp taste and a crumbly, semi-spreadable texture. Slovenská bryndza was produced commercially for the first time in the 1780’s in the Northern Slovak region of Liptov, and in 2008 was included on the EU’s Register of Protected Designations of Origin and Protected Geographical Indications as a Protected Geographical Indication (PGI)
